SITU and the launch of the Ullswater Bus
The SITU (Sustainable and Integrated Transport for Ullswater) initiative was developed through a collaboration between local businesses, the community, and transport providers to promote sustainable tourism in the Ullswater area. Its goal is to make it easier for visitors and residents to explore the region without relying on cars, helping to protect the Lake District’s natural beauty while providing convenient, eco-friendly travel options.
One of the key projects under SITU is the launch of the Ullswater Bus, which connects popular destinations like Pooley Bridge, Glenridding, and Aira Force. By combining this bus service with Ullswater 'Steamers', visitors can enjoy a seamless, car-free experience, making it easier to explore Ullswater and the surrounding walking routes while supporting local efforts to reduce traffic and preserve the environment.
